Drug Abuse Leads to Social Problems
Drug Abuse Leads to Social Problems
The abuse or addiction to chemicals has resulted in a multitude of social problems; increased crime rates; increase in family violence and disintegration of the nuclear family; increase in the number of people seeking welfare assistance; and as a critical element in the spread of HIV infection through the use of intravenous drug use. Effective alcohol rehab decreases alcohol and drug use among drug addiction treatment participants, improves the medical and physical health of individuals, improves the psychosocial functioning of the individual and his or her family, decreases criminal justice involvement and increases employability. In general, for each dollar spent on chemical dependency treatment a savings of between $4 to $7 in health care or spending on the criminal justice system will occur.
